Ryan Murphy Early Life

Born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, Murphy attended Catholic school and completed his high school education at Warren Central High School. He enrolled in Indiana University Bloomington and earned a major in journalism. After that, he worked as an intern at The Washington Post, where he worked in the style department.

Starting out as a journalist, Murphy worked for various news outlets including The Miami Herald, Entertainment Weekly, Los Angeles Times, and New York Daily News. In the 1990s, he started screenwriting after one of his scripts was bought by Steven Spielberg.

His career in the TV industry began with ‘Popular’ which was a teen comedy series. While the show was running, his Production-company called ‘Ryan Murphy Production’ managed to sign a deal with Warners. He went on to create the FX drama called ‘Nip/Tuck’. The series helped him secure his first Emmy nomination as a director and the show ran for six seasons.

Murphy started working as a producer, director, and writer for the police procedural drama ‘9-1-1’ in 2018. During this time, he was also working on the critically acclaimed series ‘Pose’. In the same year, he signed a 300 million dollar development deal with Netflix and has released series such as ‘The Politician’, ‘Ratched’, and ‘Hollywood’ for the distributor.
