Hassanal’s father is the son of the 28th of Sultan of Brunei, who ruled there for 20 years known as Sultan Sir Haji Omar Ali Saifuddin.

When Hassanal was only 15, his father, Sultan Haji died due to an accident, and the throne was transferred to crowned prince Hassanal in 1967. Brunei is the smallest sultanate located on an island but was a huge responsibility for a 15-year-old.
