Eldrick Tont Woods, professionally known as Tiger Woods was born on December 30, 1975. Tiger Woods is an American professional golfer. Woods is one of the most famous athletes of all times.

Although born in Cypress, Woods was raised in Orange Country, California. Woods had a stuttering issue when he was a boy but he managed to overcome it.

Some people even called Woods child prodigy when he was young, as he was introduced to golfing at the age of 2 by his father Earl Woods. As his father was in military, Woods was allowed access to Navy golf courses. In 1978, he played against comedian Bob Hope for a TV show. When he 3 years old, he shot a 48 over nine holes at the Navy golf course. Woods was mentioned on Golf Digest and on ABC’s That’s Incredible when he was only 5 years old. At the age of 7, Woods won in the underage 10 category of the Drive, Pitch, and Putt competition. Woods won his first Junior World Golf Championship at the age of 8. He has won that title a total of six times, with four consecutive wins in the years 1988 to 1991.

At the age of 11, Woods could easily beat his father at golf and he was 12 years old when he first broke 70 on a regulation golf course. He played his first major national junior tournament (Big I) in 1989.

At the age of 15, Woods held the record of becoming the youngest U.S. Junior Amateur Champion. He held that record up till 2010. Woods successfully defended his U.S. Junior Amateur Champion title in 1992. Woods is the only person who has won U.S. Junior Amateur Champion three times.

When he competed in his first PGA Tour event (Nissan Los Angeles Open) he was named Golf Digest, and Goldweek Amateur Player of the Year and Golf World named him Player of the year.

After completing school, Woods joined Stanford University where he got a golf scholarship. He won many titles during his time at college. Woods left his college education after two years as he wanted to turn professional player in the golf industry.

After turning professional at the age of 20, Woods immediately signed endorsement deals with Nike and Titleist. At the age of 21, Woods won his first major tournament The Masters in 1997 and became the tournaments youngest winner. He was ranked No.1 in the Official World Gold Ranking after two months of the tournament making him the fastest player to ascent to No.1. He had a slow year in 1998 but in 1999 he came back with full force and secured eight wins.

Woods suffered from severe myopia and underwent a laser eye surgery in 1999. He also suffered from same issue in 2007 and has a second surgery. During the year 2000, Woods won six consecutive events on PGA tour including U.S. Open, where he broke and tied almost nine tournament records. His performance was called ‘The greatest performance in golf history’ by Sports Illustrated. Woods became the youngest golfer to achieve career Grand Slam when he was 24 years old. By the end of 2000, he had won nine out of twenty PGA tour events and was named ‘Sportsman of the year’ by Sports Illustrated. With his 2001 Masters win, Woods became the only player to win four consecutive major professional golf titles. He was nick named ‘Tiger Slam’ after his achievement. Woods was No.1 on World Golf Rankings for 264 weeks. He lost his ranking in 2004; however he reclaimed it in July of 2005 after winning six PGA tour events.  In 2006, he took some time off due to his father’s death and later 2008 due to his knee injury. He made a comeback in 2009, but failed to win any major title. This was the first time since 2004 that he didn’t win a major title.

After an infidelity scandal in the late 2009, he announced that he will be taking a break from golf. He returned in April of 2010 but he struggled with his career and ranking. After changing his coach 2 to 3 times, it was in the year 2013 that Woods got his winning streak back.

Later, he suffered from back injury and performed badly in torments and even missed four major tournaments in year 2016 due to his back injury. After making various comebacks over the years, Woods won a major title the Masters in 2019, his first major championship win in 11 years.

In 2021, Woods had a major car crash and suffered multiple leg injuries. However, he did make a comeback at the 2022 Masters tournament.
