Tony Hsieh Early Life
Tony Hsieh was born in Urbana, Illinois, United States. At the age of five, Tony Hsieh moved to the Lucas valley area of Marin country, California, with his family. He got his initial education from Branson High school in Ross California and later went to Harvard University. In 1995, he completed his graduation degree from the University. He got a degree in Computer Science.

While at Harvard, he managed the Quincy House Grille and sold pizza to the students living in his dorm. After getting his degree, he worked at Oracle Corporation, and then five months later, he left the corporation and co-founded Link Exchange advertising network along with his class fellows. In 1998, they sold the Link Exchange to Microsoft for 265 million dollars. After selling Link Exchange to Microsoft, he then co-founded Venture Frogs with Alfred Lin.

From this deal, Tony Hsieh earned $214 million through his personal stake in the company and also earned an additional $100-200 million due to his Venture Frogs stake. Later in 2011, he joined Jetsuite’s board of directors and his investment allowed the company to develop two new ‘Embraer Phenom 100’ jets which are highly fuel-efficient jets. After his successful and visionary career at Zappos, he retired in 2020. He served for 21 years at the company. He then focused on transforming Las Vegas. In order to give Las Vegas a modern Urban core, Hsieh founded the revitalization Downtown Project worth 350 million dollars focused on bringing different businesses, schools, colleges, and residences into the city.
