Yandy Smith was born on March 19, 1982, in Harlem to Ralph Smith and Laura Smith. Watching the popular 90s comedy “A Different World”, which portrayed student life at a fictional Black institution in Virginia, gave her the motivation she needed to enroll in college. She eventually went to Howard University in Washington, D.C., one of the colleges on which the television show was based, and later earned a business management degree there. Later, she worked as an intern at Violator under the guidance of Mona Scott-Young. High-profile performers and musicians like Missy Elliot, 50 Cent, and LL Cool J were among her clients. Yandy left Violator to focus solely on managing Jim Jones after they first met in 2005 on a private aircraft arranged by Russell Simmons.
