Zidane was an attacking midfielder during his time as a professional footballer. After establishing himself as one of the best players in French Ligue 1 at Bordeaux, he moved to Italian club Juventus in 1996. After winning several trophies for Juventus he was transferred to Real Madrid in 2001. The transfer was done for 77.5 million euros, a world record fee of the time. He won several trophies during his time in Spain including, La Liga and the UEFA Champions league. Zidane’s goal at the 2002 Champions league final is considered as one of the greatest goals in competition’s history.

While player for his national team France, Zidane capped 108 times and helped France win the 1998 FIFA world cup by scoring two goals in the final. He became a national hero after the win and was awarded Legion of Honor in 1998. He was named player of the tournament after winning UEFA Euro 2000. In 2006 world cup, he received the Golden ball as Player of the tournament. Zidane also received a Ballon d’Or in 1998.
