Idris Elba Career

After starting out at the National Youth Theatre in London, Idris Elba has secured some famous roles including Stringer Bell and John Luther. In his early twenties, Elba started auditioning for various acting jobs and he landed his first acting credit in ‘Crimewatch’. Later, he appeared in ‘The Boot Street Band’ and in 1995 he secured a significant role in ‘Bramwell’. Elba worked on various projects and performed supporting roles during the start of his career. He appeared on The Bill, The Ruth Rendell, and Mysteries, to name a few. It was 2002 when Elba landed a starring role HBO’s ‘The Wire’.

He played ‘Russell (Stringer) Bell’ in the series and to this day, it remains one of his best known role in United Kingdom. One of Elba’s most famous role is his portrayal of DCI John Luther in BBC One’s series titled ‘Luther’. The show has a total of five seasons and it started in 2010 and the final episode of the series was aired in 2019.
