Lindstrom was born on 11 February 1994 in Fort Erie, Canada in a Christian family. As a child, Lindstrom played the drums while growing up in a musical family in Fort Erie, Ontario, not far from Buffalo. He attended Fort Erie Secondary School for his formal education but skipped college. He developed a love of music early; his love of music was inherited from his father and uncles. His father was an avid guitarist, and his uncles shared this love of playing musical instruments.

After leaving his drum gear at a friend’s house named Pluto Hann, he started making beats using FL Studio at the age of 17 while still in high school. To market his songs on YouTube, he decided to go by the stage name “Murda Beatz.” He relocated to Chicago when he was 18 and later collaborated with Lil Durk and Chief Keef. According to Lindstrom, he connected with the majority of his earliest creatives via social media and common friends.
