Richard Branson’s Personal Life

Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson was born on 18 July 1950 in London, England, United Kingdom. His parents were dancer & airhostess Eve Branson and Barrister Edward James Branson. Richard has two sisters Lindy and Vanessa. Branson got his early education at Scaitcliffe School in Surrey. He then attended Cliff View House School in Sussex and Stowe School in Buckinghamshire. Being dyslexic and having ADHD, Branson struggled with school and learning. He got married to Kristen Tomassi in 1972 but got divorced in 1979. He then married Joan Templeman in 1989. He has 3 children. He mostly lives on a luxe British Virgin Islands retreat, Necker Island.

Branson had a business mind since childhood. He launched his first venture- a magazine called Student in 1966. His parents were always supportive of his ventures. He started a mail-order record company from the basement of his local church. He used his magazine to advertise available record in his stock giving enough promotion for the business. His record business became known as Virgin. The name came from the fact that everyone involved in the business was not experienced in life/business at all. His first venture was a record store in London in 1970s. after making enough money, he founded his own record label called Virgin Records. VR became recording studio was several artists such as Rolling Stones, XTC, Sex Pistols, UB40, Steve Winwood, Peter Gabrial, and Paula Abdul. He worked with 1973 hit album artist Mike Oldfield. In 1984, he launched his transatlantic airline company Virgin Atlantic Airways. After that, he launched other airlines Virgin Express, Virgin Nigeria, and Virgin America. He formed Virgin Media after a merger with UK-based communication provider NTL in 2006. He is also the founder of train company Virgin Trains. In September 2004, he launched his space exploration company called Virgin Galactic. Branson seeing the spike in fuel prices and increasing global warming, started Virgin fuels that explores alternative fuels. Virgin healthcare announced chain of health care clinics that provide unconventional treatments such as homeopathic and complementary therapies alongside conventional care. Virgin hotels were launched in 2010. Branson was knighted in 2000 for his services to entrepreneurship making him Sir Richard Branson.
