Mickelson was raised in Scottsdale, Arizona. Although, Mickelson is right handed he plays golf with his left hand. Mickelson attended Arizona State University with a golf scholarship and graduated in 1992. Soon after graduating, Mickelson turned professional. Over the span of his career, Mickelson has won a total of 45 events on his PGA Tours. He has won six major championships including three Masters (2004, 2006, and 2010), two PGA championships (2005 and 2021), and one Open Championship (2013). He has never won a U.S. Open. In 2021, when Mickelson won his second PGA championship, he became the oldest major championship winner in the history.
With his wins in three out of four major titles of golf, Mickelson is one of 17 players who have achieved such a record. Mickelson joined Saudi-backed LIV Golf tour in 2022, and left his 30 years long PGA Tour membership.
Mickelson has been named in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking for more than 25 years consecutively. He has also been in the top 10 ranking for 700 weeks and has reached No.2 in the ranking several times.
