Jackson is second in professional bodybuilding titles behind Ashley Kaltwasser with 29 victories. Dexter holds the distinction of setting a record by winning the Arnold Classic five times. After the 2020 Mr. Olympia, “The Blade” ended his career as a professional bodybuilder.

Dexter Jackson was raised in Jacksonville, Florida, with his six siblings, where he was born on November 25, 1969. Dexter began playing football as soon as he joined high school, where he excelled as a running back. He also played baseball, ran track, did gymnastics, and practiced martial arts, achieving many degrees of black belt. Jackson had intended to attend college after graduating from high school, but when his girlfriend got pregnant, he decided to care his family for his baby. He allegedly then relocated to an apartment with his girlfriend and began working as a cook.

Dexter grew up with an excellent body because of his sports background and some of his friends advised him to think about participating in a local show. Dexter entered the stage for the first time in his life at the age of 20 after only 3 weeks of practice and easily won the competition. Jackson claimed that after winning his first regional competition, he fell in love with bodybuilding and began training more rigorously than ever before in an effort to one day compete on a professional level. Dexter returned in 1995, and after three years of rigorous training and self-discipline, he won the Light-Heavyweight division of the 1995 NPC USA Championships. He began by finishing sixth in the Light-Heavyweight division in the 1996 NPC Nationals, surprising everyone by winning both the division and overall at the 1998 North American Championships, where he ultimately received his Pro card. After the 1998 contests, he worked hard and followed a strict diet in preparation for his first professional competition, the 1999 Arnold Classic, where he finished in a respectable seventh place. Jackson competed in four additional events that year, the first of which was the Grand Prix England, where he finished in fourth place. His winning streak continued when he finished third, ninth, and fourth respectively in the 1999 Night of Champions, Mr. Olympia, and World Pro Championships.

He defeated the defending champion Jay Cutler on September 27, 2008, to become the title’s 12th winner and just the second person since Ronnie Coleman to win both the Mr. Olympia and Arnold Classic titles in the same year. Jackson had a fantastic year in 2008, winning Mr. Olympia, Arnold Classic, Australian Pro Grand Prix VIII, New Zealand Grand Prix, and Russian Grand Prix. Jackson finished third in the Mr. Olympia competition in 2009.
